The Devil is in the Details…

Every great idea comes together through a series of seemingly small and inconsequential decisions and actions. In the case of Recording, I believe these decisions make all the difference. The Devil really is in the Details.

The recording process begins long before the first note is played. Meticulous planning and preparation combined with equal parts Patience and Execution result in a stress free and enjoyable production process. Music is a collaborative process which means Communication is imperative to Success.

The hard work pays off. In the end, you are left with a work of art that will stand the test of time.

The Process

  • Plan

    I believe in getting it right at the source. My Recording Methodology places an emphasis on room and microphone choice, array placement, and musical performance. I rely on high quality Solid-State Discreet Microphone Preamplification, allowing minimal to no coloration of tone and timbre.

  • Capture

    This signal is then recorded via state of the art A/D Conversion and High Bit Rate & Depth Multi-track Recording. I supply low-latency monitoring to performers and clients upon request. My recording systems are power and data redundant, meaning that no matter what happens, the performance is preserved.

  • Polish

    A well recorded performance requires minimal processing, dependent on Genre. I utilize subtle modern Digital Mixing Techniques to add the finishing touches. Most projects only require minimal subtractive equalization and synthetic ambience enhancement. I work until it’s right.

Deliverables

I am a firm believer in Documentation. Musical Recordings are portals into the past, especially Live Recordings. They tell the story of an experience and can transport the listener back in time with ease. I believe robust documentation and photography aid in this pursuit.

This is seen no clearer than in the Liner and Album notes found in Vinyl Records, Cassettes, and CDs of the past. I am a firm believer in this tradition and employ it with the projects I work on.
